AHHHH! -- here we go again :)
Well about two weeks ago I took the megabus from knoxville to dc and then again from dc to nyc. both times were definitely as expected. they are a no frills bus line, and i mean that in the nicest way possible. however my experience this time was a little different from the last -- let me explain.
First of All - Drivers determine the whole mood of the trip. If you have a fun driver, he cracks a few jokes and lets you watch movies on the tv's (so long as everyone agrees on the movie that is). If you have a driver who really doesnt care to make friends or talk to his passengers then you better bring a pillow or self entertainment because there will be no movie.
Second of All - there were about 3 times as many people on this bus as last time. I left out on a Wed night and every row was full with at least 1 person, some had 2. I lucked out and didnt have to share, mainly because i stared fiercely at my blackberry and did NOT make eye contact. make it obvious you do not wanna share. the return trip was COMPLETELY full. A church group, complete with children and elderly folks had bought tickets to return on the night ride just like i had. fortunately i was the ONLY person who did not have to share my seat. i had gotten on first - claimed my seat - and sprawled out, making no qualms about not sharing a seat.
Last but not least - LONGER BREAKS AND NO SNOOOWWWW!!!! hallelujah. we got an hour break at the stop in wytheville (mentioned in my previous review here) which was AMAAZZEEBALLS because there was a 24/7 dennys!!!! we made great time as well, arriving an hour early each way.
to sum it all up, yeah.. its a good deal. just arrive early because u dont want to be left.. and dont expect it to be the ritz. i will always take megabus to dc!! you cant beat it right??
-------SIDENOTE: the driver of one of the buses told me that they would like to make knoxville a "hub" city, as well as ATL going as far south as miami or orlando. i SOO hope people keep taking MegaBus so they dont pull this area from their stops!
